Poland will be playing against Netherlands in their opening match of the European Championship on Sunday (June 16) but the former will be without Robert Lewandowski during the fixture.
The striker was injured in the friendly match against Turkey on Monday in Warsaw that Poland won by 2-0. The team doctor, Jacek Jaroszewski, said that Lewandowski has a torn biceps femoris muscle and, therefore, won't be playing Poland's opening match against the Netherlands on Sunday (June 16).
The injury was so severe that the player had to be substituted in the 32nd minute of the match.
“We are doing everything so that Robert can play in the second match against Austria,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, Lewandowski is a very crucial player for his team as he is the all-time leading goal scorer with 82 goals from 150 matches.
Additionally, Arkadiusz Milik was supposed to play with Lewandowski in the Euros, however, he got his left-knee injured on Friday against Ukraine and will require surgery.
Meanwhile, other Polish players, Paweł Dawidowicz and Karol Świderski have recovered and are more likely to return for full training in a day or two.
“Robert has a slight injury, hopefully, there should be no problems,” Probierz said. “
Karol twisted his ankle joint and after the tests the situation will be known.
“Also, the change of Pawel Dawidowicz was due to an injury. I hope they will recover after a few days. We do not plan to call up anyone," Jaroszewski confirmed.
Poland will be playing against Austria on Friday (June 21) and will be facing France on Tuesday (June 25).
